FBLA Students Qualify for Nationals

Green Bay, WI - Congratulations to our FBLA State Qualifiers and our 5 National Qualifiers! 19 students attended the State Leadership Conference in Green Bay, WI on April 8-9. These students qualified for the state conference by earning a top three finish at the regional competition on February 2. The students competed in __ different events; in order to qualify for nationals, they needed to earn in the top 4 of their respective event out of the 21 state qualifiers. The National Leadership Conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas on June 29 - July 2.  

Ellyn Blakeman
National Qualifier Ellyn Blakeman – State Champion – Word Processing
Ellyn, who won this event in her regional competition, followed that up by winning the state competition. Ellyn completed a one-hour pre-conference production test where she was given six jobs to complete utlizing Microsoft Word. At the state competition, Ellyn took an objective test related to Microsoft Word.

Amanda Miller
National Qualifier Amanda Miller – 2nd place – Computer Applications
Amanda, who won this event at the regional competition, completed a two-hour pre-conference production test where she was given eight jobs to complete utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. At the state competition, Amanda took an objective test related to the MS Office Suite.

Eli Hibl and AJ Courier
National Qualifiers AJ Courier and Eli Hibl – 3rd place – Broadcast Journalism
After taking second place at the regional competition, AJ and Eli improved their presentation to take third place overall at the state competition. In Broadcast Journalism, AJ and Eli gave a mock 7-minute broadcast simulating being the news anchors.  Their stories were on cyberbullying, information regarding the Class of 2019, FBLA news and a weather forecast. 

Jacob Laing
National Qualifier Jacob Laing – 3rd place – Impromptu Speaking
Jacob, who was the regional champion in this event, took third place at the state competition. In this event, competitors are given only 10-minutes to prepare a 3.5 - 4.5 minute speech, which point deductions if they are under or over time.
