Summer School Information is Released

Dear Parents of Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior Students:

Big Foot High School has spent a great deal of time over the past several years focusing our efforts to provide opportunities for our students in the area of intervention and credit recovery. The Title 1 Focus Team has come up with an idea that will provide students in the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 with an opportunity to relearn or demonstrate mastery of skills in the areas of Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. The program is founded on the idea that some of our students need extra work, effort, and practice in order to reach the level of mastery required for success in school.

As a parent or guardian, you are receiving this letter because your son or daughter received a grade in Math, Science, English, or Social studies during this school year that was at the CD, D, DF, or F level. In an attempt to bring your student's grade and skills up to the level of mastery in the academic area, we are giving you the opportunity to enroll your child in summer school. Summer school will run for (2) two-week sessions this summer. The sessions will run from June 17 - June 28 (10 days) and July 1- July 16 (10 days as no school will be held July 4-5). These sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with students being scheduled into 90-minute blocks of time. Each student will work individually with teachers on computer-based programs aligned with expected course outcomes which will allow students to continue to develop the skills necessary for the completion of the class. Students who successfully complete summer school coursework will have their grades changed by no more than one full letter grade.

Students may sign up for one or both sessions based on their needs. Students may be absent only once during their session. A second absence will result in the student being dropped from that session. Therefore, if you have a vacation or other reasons your student will miss more than one day, do not sign up for that session.

Parents are advised that student access to the online coursework that your child is working on is available 24/7. Students may work on the assigned online coursework outside the time of their scheduled summer school time. Parents should encourage their student(s) to work on each class as much as they can so that the work is completed in a timely manner. Once a student has completed their coursework they are released from summer school. All work must be completed by July 16th.

I hope that you take the opportunity to enroll your student(s) in this most valuable experience. We as a community truly believe that this opportunity will greatly assist your student to be ready for classes during the next school year and beyond. A registration form is included to sign your student(s) up for the summer school program.

Please register your student(s) early, but no later than Friday, May 31st as we will be scheduling teachers and making budget decisions based on enrollment. Don't hesitate to contact me at my information below if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Dowden
