Rehearsals for This Year’s Musical Began in December
In early December, rehearsals for High School Musical began. Many more students auditioned compared to years prior, as everyone wanted to be apart of this Disney classic. After careful deliberation amongst the judges, junior Alex Schmitz will be playing Troy Bolton, senior Amanda Miller will be playing Gabriella Montez, senior Hanah Nordmeyer will be playing Sharpay Evans, and senior Nathan Birdsall will be playing Ryan Evans. This version of High School Musical is based on the first movie, where Troy, the star athlete of his high school, falls for Gabriella, an academic genius who just transferred to their school, at a karaoke party. When the school year begins, they audition for their school’s musical, but Sharpay tries to ruin their chances of getting the lead roles. Troy and Gabriella struggle to make it to the auditions while having to worry about their obligations to the academic decathlon and basketball team.
During rehearsals, everyone has been strictly following Covid guidelines to maintain a safe environment, including socially distancing and wearing a mask at all times. Stage crew has also started to build sets, and will begin painting them soon to make the musical come to life. The Pit Orchestra, directed by Mr. Neal Raskin, will have their first rehearsal on Thursday, January 14 as well.
