Big night for Big Foot-Williams Bay Track & Field at the WIAA Division 2 Regional hosted at Big Foot, with multiple athletes and relay teams punching their ticket to Sectionals at McFarland High School this Friday by finishing in the top 4 of their events.
Boys Sectional Qualifiers
Aaron Diaz took 3rd in the 100m finals (11.84) to qualify.
Freshman
Phillip Klamm
finished runner-up in the 800m with a PR time of 2:07.65.
Colton Goetsch earned 2nd in shot put with a throw of 46’ 7.75”.
Trevor Kooyenga cleared 6’0” for 2nd place in high jump.
Nate Goeddeke placed 3rd in pole vault at 11’0”.
Jacob Haynes qualified in triple jump with a PR leap of 40’ 8” for 2nd place.
Christopher Hernandez also advanced in triple jump after finishing 4th with a PR of 40’0”.
The boys 4x100 relay team of Isaiah Dye-Hamilton, Jayden Paul, Julian Accula, and Aaron Diaz took 4th in 45.93.
The boys 4x200 relay team of Julian Accula, Isaiah Dye-Hamilton, Jacob Haynes, and Aaron Diaz also qualified with a 4th-place finish in 1:35.21.
Other standout performances included:
Austin Kooyenga narrowly missed qualification in the 300 hurdles with a season-best 43.99 for 5th place.
Multiple PRs from Landyn Henningfeld, Liam Beth, Diego Cote Martinez, and Jacob Haynes highlighted a strong night overall.
Girls Sectional Qualifiers
The girls squad had an especially strong regional showing, highlighted by a regional championship in the 4x100 relay.
The 4x100 relay team of Maliyja Spearman, Allie Stankevitz, Lydia Farence, and Maddie Perkins won the regional title in 51.14.
Lydia Farence finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles with a season-best 48.71.
Kaylin Ferrell placed 4th in the 200m with a PR of 29.68.
Carla Castaneda earned 4th in the 800m with a PR time of 2:37.05.
The girls 4x400 relay team of Carla Castaneda, Maddie Perkins, Amelia Rehberg, and Lydia Farence advanced with a 4th-place finish in 4:15.36.
Wrigley Grindle captured a regional championship in shot put with a throw of 34’ 7.25”.
Brylee Parrott added a 3rd-place PR throw of 32’ 2” in shot put.
Ava Schoonover won the high jump title, clearing 5’0”.
Freshman
Micaiah Peterson
also qualified in high jump with a 2nd-place finish at 5’0”.
Rebecca Konkel qualified in pole vault after placing 3rd.
Maliyja Spearman advanced in long jump with a 4th-place finish.
Ciara Benitez earned a sectional berth in triple jump with a 3rd-place finish and PR.
Big Foot-Williams Bay will now compete Friday at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional hosted at McFarland, with a chance to qualify for the state meet.
