Woodworking

Curriculum Overview
The woodworking curriculum at Big Foot includes three levels of classes. These classes include Woods 1, Woods 2, and Building Construction. Woods 1 and 2 offer students the opportunity to learn traditional woodworking skills and create wood based products. Building Construction is a Junior/Senior level class designed to teach students common home construction methods from floors all the way through roofs.

Building Construction
In Woods 1 students learn the safety and operation of all the tools required to cut, square, and smooth rough sawn lumber in order to create a final product. Students will also learn the basics of gluing and joinery.
In Woods 2 students expand and improve on their wood processing skills as well as learn additional joinery techniques.
In Building Construction students work in a simulated home construction environment to learn the fundamentals of framing, siding, and roofing. Each year the Building Construction class creates 5'x8' sheds that are available for purchase.
